Minimalist Mark Making in Black and White with Artist, Shelbey Tharpe

You are invited to join Shelbey Tharpe at The Bold in Sharpsburg for an evening of creative exploration!

Come and make a mark and then up your decorating game by learning simple techniques to matte and frame your work. In this class we will explore the idea of mark making touching on both history and the basic elements of visual art. Mark making can be defined as the different lines, dots, marks, patterns, and textures we create in an artwork. They can be loose and gestural or controlled and neat. We will experiment with this idea using a limited palette of black and white and then choose an idea to frame. Frame your work and leave with a beautiful and personal 11X14 piece to hang in your home!

Materials: The Bold will provide all materials for this class. We'll be working with ink, so please do wear clothes that can get dirty!

Who Should Take This Class? All artistic skill levels are welcomed! Monochromatic (black and white in this case!) work eliminates the variable of color so that we are able to explore form and space without a deep awareness of color theory.
